The Motor City
Black Age was established by an Artist/Writer of the comic book genre Andre
Batts, in 2009.After many years of going
to Comic Book conventions across the U.S. Andre Batts had came to the
realization that the Minority was the minority at most comic book conventions.
He seen many faces at the cons, but few that looked like him. Being a comic
book creator himself , he sought to create an event for the Comic Book creators
of Color of Metro Detroit getting the recognition they deserve.
Motor City Black Age is following the tradition that was set forth by the Father of the Black age of comic’s movement, Turtel Onli of “Onli Studios” Chicago IL. (1993) , the East Coast Black age of Comics est. May 2002 by Yumy Odum and Maurice Waters, also OnyxCon Atlanta, established by Joseph Wheeler III. These Comic conventions are still going strong for 5 years straight, Andre Batts has brought the Black Age of Comics movement to Detroit with 2009 starting it all off at the Shrine of the Black Madonna and now, Youthville Detroit, a venue that is geared towards young up and coming creative artist and writers.
The Motor City Black Age is part of a movement that is starting to expand across the U.S.
This is a gathering for black creators and fans from all walks of life to meet and learn from each other. It is an annual gathering of comic book creators, artist, writers and retailers who create and sell material that caters to readers of all ages. In addition to selling their work, they also take part in panel discussions, art workshops for all ages and self-publishing workshops for aspiring creators and artist. Become a part of the movement
The dates are set, don't miss it Save the date September 12th -13th 2014, with the 12th being our meet and greet as well as independent animation screening, and movies by our local artist and others afar.
